Hi! Thank you for visiting Miyamore. My name is Karen Ruane, I have a BFA from the U. of Arizona, and I have been a practicing fine artist for 7 years.
Over the years I've discovered and mastered many art forms. From painting, to silk screening, to photography and now fine silver jewelry, I enjoy keeping on my toes and challenging myself with new artistic endeavors.
Miyamore was born from my desire to combine all the skills I've picked up and apply them to an art form I've fallen in love with. I picked the name Miyamore for two reasons. One, because I truly love what I do. And second, because my little girl Miya has become my inspiration to build a business so that I can have it all!
This revolutionary medium is both versatile and eco-friendly! It starts as a clay, which is made by mixing recycled silver particles (extracted from the silver nitrate used for film processing) and an organic binder with water. This clay can be molded, stamped, extruded, and carved just like ceramic clay! It is then dried thoroughly and kiln fired. The fired pieces are burnished (rubbed with a stronger metal to smooth out the silver particles) and sanded and/or polished. Sterling silver components are added to create a finished piece.
Not only have I chosen to work with an environmentally friendly medium, but I have chosen to live as green a lifestyle as possible and to participate in planet preservation programs whenever I can.
